SCRUMFRAME – How to embed Scrum in regulated industries

Be Shaping the Future (AT)08.08.2019

Scrum is neither the only nor the first agile approach used in product development, but it is rightly the most widespread in the German-speaking world. It has enormous potential, which has been proven in countless development projects. Scrum has shown that it can be a good framework for committed teamwork and allows teams to achieve performance levels that exceed the expectations of classic projects. There are enough examples that high dynamics and speed can be achieved in product development.

The attractiveness of using Scrum in different industries is therefore easy to understand. However, the challenges of implementation and use, especially in highly regulated industries such as banking, are at least as great.

The weaknesses and limitations of Scrum are intimately coupled to its strengths. Scrum’s exclusive focus on enabling the best possible teamwork unfortunately almost completely forgets that such development projects take place within a certain context. The relationship to the organisation, to the pre- and post-history of a project, remains unclear. In this regard SCRUM urgently needs to be supplemented.

Governance Framework

Scrum needs a framework that ensures the connection to the organisation and makes this connection productive. This urgently needed framework, a stable governance framework that can handle different forms of agility, was created by a team from targit GmbH and Milestone Consultancy GmbH . We have developed SCRUMFRAME from many years of project experience, the analysis of countless Scrum implementations and detailed theoretical knowledge.

SCRUMFRAME offers an excellent framework for managing Scrum developments in a company. Furthermore, SCRUMFRAME allows control of projects in which individual parts/streams/work packages are developed in a waterfall approach, while others are developed in an agile approach. SCRUMFRAME can handle such mixed forms very well.

Your benefits

The use of SCRUMFRAME results in a variety of benefits for the company using it:

– The dynamics of agile development with SCRUM can be controlled by good governance and in the right dosage can also be used for highly regulated industries.

– The customer companies can work with both waterfall approaches and SCRUM in one project.

– Scalability is given for different project sizes and different numbers of development teams.

– Existing implementations of Scrum can continue to be used, only the clearly described adjustments by SCRUMFRAME are necessary.
